Can a dirty action in a semi auto cause accuracy problems because mine was filthy in my gun to the point it felt a little gritty when raking the first round. I took out apart and it looked dirty as hell like compressed dirty grayish sand . Now it's all clean and smooth though

Re: Dirty gun question

.22 is some diiirty stuff, it fouls up faster than any other cartridge you can shoot. Its probably a good idea to keep the action clean and lubricated, and run a patch through the bore when you start noticing fliers and a degradation in accuracy.

Re: Dirty gun question

Yes...inasmuch as the filth and build up affects 1. Seating and chambering the cartridge. Since it is a "rimfire" build up in the rim recess can cause inconsistent ignition and consequent flyers. 2. The trigger "pull" weight can be adversely affected by grit, old grease and dirt. Precision isn't there in that event. 3. Variation of the back and forth movement of the bolt due to resistance of the dirt can change the recoil motion and consequent departure angle of the muzzle to the target. These are just a few off the top of my opinion.
