Discreet Long Rifle Transport Bag?

Anyone have any recommendations for a discreet long rifle carry/transport bag?

I live in a major metropolitan city, and I'd like to be able to transport my rigs between my place and FFL/range without lugging around a hard case that advertises what is inside.

Ideally it would be a padded soft case, rectangular in shape, with lockable zippers, and a shoulder strap or two for duffel or backpack style hauling around.

I was looking at tall light stand bags from the major camera retailers, but don't know how securely a long rifle can be held inside.

How long are your rifles? There are guitar shaped, soft padded rifle cases available on Amazon. The name escapes me right now. I have one and it works great for my AR and anything with a foldable stock.

I am looking at having a soft case made for my longer non-folding rifles.

Doesn’t matter what material it’s made from, long rectangle screams gun. You’d need something like a cello case (I'm not advocating that) not to announce that you’re moving a rifle. A carbine with a folding stock can be discrete, but I’ve never seen a case for a precision rifle that didn’t say...

I live in a large northeast city and I use a team hockey stick bag with some sewn in velcro. Add in a back pack and some other sporty looking clothes and no one looks twice on the subway. Got the idea when I saw a guy with a ski bag last winter.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. Yes, it’s for a full length bolt action rifle in a traditional McMillan stock, so any of the suggestions for folders or collapsible stocks will be too short. With the input, I think my best bet may be a sport (ski, snowboard, etc) or long light stand carry bag. Maybe I can find one big enough to stuff a cheapo Plano single rifle case in.

I recommend a U-Haul trailer. Not only can you put your guns in it, you can also pack up and move to a place where when you carry your rifle case to the truck people will know it is a gun and be happy, probably ask what caliber and what kind of reloading recipe you use.

Do an AT/AX and remove the barrel, use a 26" (or shorter)tool box, etc. This question came up some time ago about the repeated removal/install of the barrel and Apparently Tom Irwin reported no ill effects with the ones he/company done while traveling about.
If you run a short barrel, a folder may be an option also.

Someone finally hit on one of my big issues with hiding as other equipment. Someone may strike up a convo about music, golf etc and if you don't play, are you going to go hard on CIA level back story, keep up the charade?

Either get a generic bag (If it'll fit, I like the grey ghost bag, regardless of hiding or not) or do something related to your work which is probably boring so no one will likely ask, and if they do you can talk about yourself openly.

After looking at various long bags (snowboard, longboard, etc), I decided to get a Sector 9 Field Bag, which are meant for long skateboards. I can fit a cheap Plano single long rifle case in there almost perfectly. Have to squeeze the ends in there, but she likes that. It's got some carry options with top handles and backpack type straps, but is still relatively plain on the outside and relatively incognito. It's also on sale from the manufacturer's site, but of course it only comes in black and woodland camo, so maybe that defeats the original purpose of getting it, lol.

Its got cell foam inside... they come in various sizes... and everyone thinks the are tripods or photo equipment.

Never has anyone realized there was a folder TRG-42 in the case... or my 12ga with 32in bbls.

So the only problem with an actual golf club bag is that many places want to put them someplace because they’re so expensive. I’ve seen people in the same line with me having golf clubs triple checked out because they tend to be so damn expensive.

I went for the photo graphic equipment route because it makes it look like you’re just moving tradeshow materials

Edit: The only downside is that an aircraft firearms are supposed to be hand carried to a special place at the destination airport. When they see a nondescript photographic equipment container they tend to put it directly on the belt… I’ve had this happen about three times in Las Vegas
