Do your AX got a big ole booty? Getting tired of waiting for a weight system that will never come? Can’t stomach the peasantry of stick-on wheel weights on an AI? Piss on all that... This is easier than you think.
Tools Needed:
- M-LOK weights of your choice. I picked up some Snyder Precision blems as I knew I’d be hacking into them anyways. They worked very well for this project.
- 17/64” drill bit
- Angle Grinder with a flap wheel works well.
- M8x1.25 Left Hand Tap
- Appropriate number of AI rail screws. My AX came with 9 between the various rail sections included. Only needed 8 for mine. Anarchy Outdoors sells both Pre and Post 2014 screws if your rail sections are pre-occupied.
Step 1: Check hole spacing. Mine was perfect with the SP weights. Make sure she’s the one before deflowering your M-LOK weights.
Step 2: Grind off the M-LOK Lugs.
Step 3: Open up the holes to 17/64”.
Step 4: Tap the holes with the M8x1.25 Left Hand Tap. Use lots of lube. Gun oil worked well. Yes, lefty tighty... don’t be a retard. After doing this first one I realized I should have tapped them from the front so the backside thread is the cleanest. Run a chamfering tool over the holes to remove the burr.
Step 5: Thread in your Key Slot screws and make sure they’re smooth and bind-free.
Step 6: Test Fit. Righty tighty from this end.
Step 7: If the test fit goes well, paint them sumbitches up and final install. Open beer. Celebrate. If test fit fails, you fucked up. Purchase new M-LOK weights and repeat.
