I’m wondering what some of y’all are doing for an elevated shooting platform. I live on some land and am looking at building one by sinking pipe into the ground and welding angle iron as the frame to set wood on. I’d like to be able to lay prone and maybe also have a bench or barricade on it. My questions are what size frame, height, thoughts, ideas should I look into. I’m notorious for overthinking things and trying to plan every little thing out from every angle so I don’t get the “I wish I did this...”

Theres a few threads already about this. Seems like most go around 10Ft deep facing your shooting direction to have room for a prone adult and rifle. And having solid base, maybe adding concrete inside and outside your pipe to make it rock solid. If it moves with a breeze it will be a headache.

Here's the thread on the one we made:

Was not cheap. Even with free labor I think we got 2 grand into it. Could be a bit cheaper if it was shorter.
Unless all of your targets are straight out, you definitely want to make your platform bigger than you think you need. Otherwise you'll be hanging off the side to make those angled shots.

An old gravity wagon with a platform on the top is an economical way to build a movable shooting platform. And just add walls and a roof for hunting season.
