Hello SH.

I've got a .308 rem700 with murphy precision 20MOA base.
Currently i run a NF NXS compact 2.5-10x32 on .825" murphy precision rings. And i don't use any additional cheek-rests with that setup.

But now i'm thinking to use my rifle in IPSC competitions on the fields with 0-300 meters distances.

Tried yesterday to shoot quick drills looking thru my NXS - and i'm slow in target acquisition compared to me with my AK with iron sights.

the question is - does anyone run red-dot only setup on his bolt-action gun?

I've got two candidates: Aimpoint micro T-1 and Eotech EXPS 3-2

about aimpoint - wouldn't it bee too low on my Rem?
about Eotech - wouldn't it bee too high on my Rem?

Thank you in advance for the answers. If anyone can provide photo of his setup "bolt-action + red-dot" - it will be very helpful.

PS
or maybe it's time to buy Swaro Z6i 1-6x CDI or BRT-i?

PPS
I know the advice to put a red-dot over NXS - but honestly i don't like the idea to switch between optics because on 300 meters distances red-dot on IPSC target is quite enough.

There is spacers and other mounts availble for the T1, so you can get it to any height.

I am running the T1 as secondary sight on both a number of heavy guns like TRG but also on my AR.
Works great and it can be done either on our mounting system, plus that there is a number of mounts that can held a T1 on your Nightforce.

With this solution you just keep your head where it is and roll the gun.

1. Thank you for your input. But turrets on NXS compact will not allow me to position Aimpoint as it shown on your photo (on 3 o'clock)
The only option is to put it on 45 degree - and to shoot thru it i need to change cheek position.

2. As i said - i'm thinking about option to put the red-dot only.

Re: The best golf shoes

I'm running an Aimpoint on my Ruger Gunsite Scout. I had an EOTech on there and it was too high. I used a low 30mm scope ring to mount the Aimpoint and it's perfect.

Re: The best golf shoes

why not one of those 1-4x scopes?

the true 1x will give you the red dot like sight picture, and if you ever want to, you can zoom it in to take better advantage of your rifle?

if not, just throw on a burris fastfire II on there. those things are great. cheap, can take the punishment of a 12 gauge saiga and insanely tiny.

Thank you for your answer.

Do you run M2 or M4? and what's the height of those "low" rings? .885" or .825"?

Just changing the topic header back again.

I don't run a red dot on bolt guns but if I were inclined to, I'd just use a 1-4 like mentioned above. Maybe something like the illuminated PST 1-4 with TMCQ reticle. That seems to basically fill the red dot role with more options that you'd not have with a standard red dot. PST 1-4

the reason i'm looking into red-dot is just because stage designers on our matches tend to enlarge pistol-distance-cource to the rifle competitions.

So it's very common to see 75% of targets located on 10-120 meter distances and 90% of targets are inside 160 meters. there could be poppers at 300 m - but its rare.

What is common is to make you shoot almost off-hand or from the weak side\eye - so red-dot is the winner over 1-4 optic.

however - i will try 1-4 or 1-6 optic on my gun - thank you for giving the way to explore.
