So I’ve started playing around with a crossbow just for fun. Having long range shooting as a hobby, I’m naturally wanting to push the limits with the crossbow as well.

My current scope was just part of the whole bow package. It’s one of the cheapos where you dial the mag ring to the FPS and have bdc holds due to the reticle being in the sfp. Works well enough for hunting I guess but looking for something more. I was checking out the 1-4 SWFA and they don’t have what I guess would be the fixed parallax listed in the specs. Got me to thinking, is this even an issue on really low magnification scopes? On something like the 1-4 would I be able to see the reticle and target clearly from 20-80 yards?

Lack of adjustable parallax doesn't matter in a quality low power variable.

Scopes have been made that way for decades. I'm pretty sure optical engineers have figured it out and my experience with a Steiner 1-4X and a Burris 3-9X (neither with adjustable parallax) confirms that they have.

For what we’re talking here, no it won’t be an issue. Much more to worry about in archery than a tiny parallax shift.

Put the crossbow in a spot where you can get behind it, move your head around in the eye box and see how much the crosshairs move off the target at various ranges. If you always stay in the center of the eye box you will not have parallax error. The error can be significant at short range on a 150 yard parallax set scope. (Relatively) But at those ranges a 1/2 inch doesn’t matter for hunting. I use a bushnell Elite 3-9x 40 with a firefly reticle on 3 power. I love the scope (reticle)for deer huntinG with a crossbow or rifle.
