Does MDT 300 WSM metal mag work in the Magpul Hunter Stock?

I bought a the newly released Magpul Hunter for the 110 SA. I didn’t realize they say for the magnums it won’t work. I called Magpul and they said their Pmags are not designed for the Magnum or PRC. The Savage 110 300WSM fits perfectly into the Magpul 110 Hunter Stock. It came with the 7.62x51 Single Stack Pmag. The 300 WSM rounds feed into the PMag fine, however, they the bolt does not pick them up, and it appears the bullet tip may slightly become held up on a poor angle at the feed ramp. I’m wondering if getting a MDT 300 WSM without front binder plate will fit the magazine well of the Magpul Hunter stock. I’m also assuming if that fits I will still need to have a little ramp work done by my gun smith. Does anyone have any experience with this particular setup yet?

I hope this helps others who have Savage 110 short action magnum 300 WSM or 6.5 PRC rifles. I’ve been drooling over the Magpul Hunter for Savage 110 since they announced it in 2019. I had hoped it would work for the 300 WSM. The stock fits like a glove without any modifications. The issue was the .308 (7.62 x 51) PMags did not work for the 300 WSM. So I ordered AICS magnum short action mags without front binder plates from MDT, hoping they would fit the AICS Magpul Hunter stock. They did. I also was counting on needing to do some feed ramp work at the gun smith because of not having the front binder plates on the MDT mags. However, it was totally unnecessary. Also, because I’m restricted to five rounds in Utah for hunting, I ordered the 3 round MDT mags. Again, another Easter egg surprise is the 3 rounds hold 4 rounds, seat into the magwell with bolt closed and cycle perfectly. I hope this helps someone else looking for a less expensive upgrade to their short magnum 300 WSM or 6.5 PRC Savage 110.

I just ordered a 300WSM barrel for my Terminus Zeus QC action. I too ordered the MDT short mag magazine. It works in my KRG X-ray. I was going to say if it works in my X-ray then it would work in your magpul chassis. Glad it worked out.

Separate question: are you going to reload the WSm or buy factory? I wasn’t able to find factory so I’m going to load 200gr ELDX, Norma brass, 215m primers, and H4350 powder and try to get 2,850 in my 20” Proof.

I just read through R657-5 in the Utah fish and game regulations.
I didn't see anything showing any magazine restrictions for hunting big game. In fact, the regs seemed very liberal with no caliber or muzzle energy restrictions with respect to centerfire rifles.

I'm aware that a lot of states restrict semi-autos to 5+1, but I didn't even see that mentioned.

Where did you read about the 5 round magazine limit?

We also had a tough time buying commercial. We have been keeping our brass and had about 200 rounds. My brother and I both have been using 165g Spear Boattails BC .525, 3095ftps, handloaded for our 300 WSM.

I shot the build with MDT mags and it worked flawlessly. However, after watching Eric Cortina’s YouTube series on the 6.5 “Need More” and how his crew took a 3.5 MOA stock Remington 700 as a control rifle and only added a muzzle brake, and dropped it into a MDT Oryx stock and consistently shot under .7 MOA at 100yards, then shot good groups out to 1000 did I decide to send back the Magpul. I got the barrel back from the gun smith today and I have now a gun, with the right shooter, might have a chance at hitting decent groups out past 800. I will let you know.

Just bought the 8 round mags. Thanks for the heads up.
