I thought Id share some images from New Zealand this past weekend of myself and Dogtown from Cali at a shoot in the central North Island of New Zealand .
Those that dont know Dogtown -he is from California but for now is living 8 hours away from me in Wellington NZ making amazing CGI effects at WETA workshop for Peter Jackson's movies in Wellington .
Some months back The Gunslingers Tactical shooting match was being organized and I touched base with Dogtown to see if he wanted to attend .As DT didn't have his own gear here I offered him a rifle and ammo so he could attend which he gladly took up .My shooting partner at last minute dropped out so I asked DT to shoot with me .
The ideal shooting arrangement was an semi auto for short range out to 500-600 yards and a bolt rifle to 1000 plus yards .Well we didn't quite have all the tools so DT went to shoot with a 338lm Barnard model 10 bolt action which was not sighted in and chronographed for perfection and I with a Barnard chambered in .284 shehane .
How did we do ? Well we had a great time but realized our short coming with his unfamiliar rifle and the swarovski range finder not giving great readings on a generally flat grassy ground - plus I made a couple of stupid errors reading the dope on my Nomad PDA wrong -how you ask! well so did I ?? 3 moa over.We had some great hits also at small things at mid range and I had one good hit at 1000 plus yards on a very slim target - I may have been one of 2 that hit
Anyway we had a great time with some really nice people whom neither of us had met who are passionate shooters like ourselves .
Hope fully the next comp well combine in again will be in Feb 12 against the NZ army sniper teams

Re: Dogtown USA and Ch'e NZ team up

Looks like a fun time Ch'e! Amazing scenery also. My wife was fortunate to visit your country several years ago and I hope she'll drag me over there one day as well.
Thanks for the pics!

Re: Dogtown USA and Ch'e NZ team up

I gotta say the scenery is even great for me as I live 4 hours from where we were shooting and it is very different than Auckland .Its always interesting also to what turns up as far as rifles ,scopes and range finders to these contests and there was some cool stuff

Re: Dogtown USA and Ch'e NZ team up

That's how shooters should be towards eachother.

I could do with more scenery pics... no offense, but you don't cut it! lol.

Looks like good times.

Re: Dogtown USA and Ch'e NZ team up

That was lots of fun! Thanks again to the Gunslinger crew for hosting the match and Ch'e for supporting me. Indeed, the scenery in NZ is stunning and we were really lucky to get access to this private farm for a shooting site. The groups that showed up did so from all across NZ and it was great to be around shooters for a change.

The competition itself was well organized and executed, making the several stages throughout the day a good test of the individual shooter's ability as well as a pair working as a team. I was rather embarassed that I shot so poorly - I completely screwed up the process of resetting the turrets on my rifle after zeroing. Thankfully I was able to figure out the offset in time to hit "some" targets.

The Barnard Model 10 rifle I shot was very well engineered and comfortable to shoot. I might have to pick one of those up when I get a chance.
