So I have been a fan of 300 Blackout for a pretty long time. I even designed a 265 grain bullet for the caliber that is sold commercially. Recently I used a Nucleus to build a "pistol" in 300 Blackout with a 3.5" barrel. I did it mostly so I could go back and forth between rifle and pistol. It shot great and most bullets were stable and I could actually get heavy bullets supersonic with the 3.5" barrel. But now it is time for something different, really different.
Here is a picture of the 300 Blackout "pistol" with my silencer. I machined the barrel diameter to accept a picatinny rail that fits onto shotgun tubes.
And here is a picture of the barreled action:
Now I am going longer, much longer. I picked up a 33" Krieger blank on the cheap so I am going to chamber in 300 Blackout. We shall see what sort of velocities I am getting or if it is running out of steam before it leaves the barrel.
A few friends and I have been discussing the 300 Blackout as a economical "long range" caliber for a few years. A friend of mine has been working up some loads to shoot out of a 24" barrel. Another is shooting his setup out to 800 yards using G9 bullets. Both are having good success and are getting surprising groups pretty regularly. The 800 yard shooter is doing a full prep on his brass. I am going to start with 155 grain Amax bullets. Bass Pro had them priced wrong and I got them for about 1/2 price.
The barrel comes in tomorrow and I will chamber it in 300 Blackout then thread it for my Nucleus. I will start out with a Savage action and if it shoots well I will most likely move the barrel over to my Nucleus.
And for those wondering why, I say why not. I am known as the guy who does the odd stuff among my friends. I always want something that is unique and I think a 32" 300 Blackout will be just that.
