I am new to the long range shooting along with the addiction to accuracy problem I have. I wanted to know what you guys keep in your log book each time you go to the range. Is there a certain format that you need to keep it in so that when someone who knows what they are really talking about looks at it they won't find it comical. I am a Land Surveyor and am going to use a field book that surveyors use. The book is waterproof and also the sheets are coated with something that is weather resistant on archival paper. Other than the ammo information and rifle used, temp, and wind what to you record. I am not hand loading yet but plan to be up and running in the next month or so.

Re: Dope Book

Go with an actual data book. It is already designed for that purpose, and doesn't cost all that much either. Impact is a good one, Storm makes them too. Shouldn't be too hard to find one that is exactly what your applications are.

Hey Land Surveyer
Give us a holler if you need any assistance. We are coming out with a new load development page that is like none ever done before. If you are new to long range shooting and want to learn more about proper shot logging, calls, cold bore, come-ups, etc, PM me your email and I will send you our free 21 page Data Book Manual as well as free printable to-scale targets (MOA and MIL), that will give you an idea what boxes are contained in Data Books, and how to best fill them out, to become a more proficient shooter. This will help you regardless which Data Book you end up purchasing, or if you decide to make up your own.

If you get over to Central Virginia Tactical, instructor Vern uses our books, and he and can show you some nice techniques. We also have some great Hide instructors over in your neck of the woods that can assist you getting up to speed rapidly..

All the best.. Mark & Crew
