OK here we go. I had a complete DPMS 7.62x51 SASS heavy 18 inch bull barrel fluted. Rifle was complete and I was unsatisfied with the look so I decided to change it up. I sold the handguard and i am waiting on Midway to have the item ready. In the mean time i was looking for a 5.56 barrel to complete a M4A2 style upper. Got excited and picked up an AP4 barrel from here and did not think about it being a 30 cal barrel. So the question I would like to get opinions on is. Should keep and use the AP 4 barrel or keep with the Heavy SASS barrel and rebuild what I was originally thinking. Either way I need the handguard i am waiting on to fit the upper receiver rail. After thinking about changing the handguard I have also changed the stock to magpul CTR and carbine length buffer tube spring and buffer. Was thinking about topping it with a vortex pst or equivalent in Leupold.

Pros AP4
I like the shorter 16 in barrel (AP4)
just a little lighter
Cons
not as complete as the SASS barrel. Need a gas block and carbine gas tube.

Pros SASS.
More complete than the AP4 barrel.
was my original plan.
need a thread protector or flash hider and handguard.

Cons
Heavy Mo Fo.
18 inches than 16.

The reviews are good with both barrels even though SASS barrel has many more reviews than the AP4.

What are your thoughts.

Re: DPMS question configuration.

As for the question, keep the SASS. Put the PRS back on the SASS.

Keep the AP4 barrel. Build another Battle Rifle. You have the carbine suffer system and stock, too.

My AP4 has an Aimpoint, magpull BUIS, and a Magpul UBR on it now.
