Greetings
Awaiting on my license for my Remington 30-06. This could take up to six months.

Am I mental to consider acquiring a pellet replica in the meantime to get some training in? I know triggerwork won't get close but maybe basic positions and stability can be practiced?

Any other alternatives?

Thanks in Advance

Get a airsoft replica and a data book, practice calling environmentals inside , was the A/C on, what was the thermostat set to, fans running, was it full value or 1/4.. practice cold bore tracking and log each first shot, collect dope on 10,15,and 25 feet.

Then throw all that crap away and learn when you get the real thing! Seriously, 6 months for a rifle!?? In Texas if you ain’t got one when you get here we’ll give you one ! :D

what communist country do u live in that you have to wait 6 months for a 30-06?

My sympathies for your restrictions. In all seriousness perhaps something such as a Hollywood prop rifle with working trigger and action. If waited correctly it could allow you to work on positions and shouldering. If it was a pistol I’d say propane powered blowback air soft. They make them so accurate in weight and feel now they’ll actually fit in a product correct holster with accompanying correct magazines.

I agree, anything that would allow you to learn the basics of marksmanship Principles would be good. There is plenty of advice on this site.
I personally used an air rifle from the age of 9 and used it every opportunity I had. It will start your brain linking the coordination you require together and start to train the muscles. In my opinion if you focus on trigger operation you should be going in the right direction. If you can shoot reasonably well with a crap trigger then when you use a better one it will make a real improvement. I have been shooting, military and civilian ever since (62 this year) Don't be put off, 6 months wait, in UK, is fairly normal, getting experience with a shooting club whilst you wait would also be a good idea. Thats my two cents/pennies worth. All the best.

He's from South Africa, so easy it's to understand his situation.

Brendan, If I were in your shoes, I would buy a good pellet rifle and get started shooting. A good pellet rifle is a great trainer and will allow you to learn proper trigger pull. Plus you will get the satisfaction of getting tiny one-hole groups at 10 meters and learn drops and wind for anything much longer than that.
