Night Vision Dumb question: Non-Illuminated reticle and PVS22

Never thought of this until now. Would a non-illuminated reticle still be visible enough through a PVS22 to use at night? Or is an illuminated the only way to go? Obviously illuminated would be better, but is non-illuminated a deal breaker and would be 'washed out'?

Most times I do not need the illuminated reticle with a typical Gen 3 quality clip-on. It is not a deal breaker if you do not have one.

Was starting to wonder if one optic I had would work at night, which would have been a huge disappointment.

The more green you can see through your day scope is the key to seeing more of the standard black reticles. Using a IR illuminator helps immensely and does not wash out a black reticle as much as you think. In fact, (IMHO) I find the lighted red reticles show much less contrast (maybe my because of my slight color blindness which 60-70% males have).

Now with that said, one of the best colored reticles I find for a clip-on is the BLUE ones than can be special ordered through US Optics work amazingly well. We had them out here approx 3 months ago showing a few of their new line of day scopes and one of them had a blue lit reticle installed. They said a customer special ordered it and they did not know why...I know why! ;-) The blue is VERY relaxing on your eye and contrast extremely well with the green backgrounds and of course black.

Just my thoughts on lit reticles on what I see.

I don't use or need a lit reticle with my PVS26. I have lit reticle just don't need them with the 26.

I have tried red lit and non and I preferred non on my pvs22 have tried on multiple rifles and multiple scopes fine reticle to thick reticle and all different focal planes still liked non lit better for my eyes
