I have a sps tactical arriving shortly and I gather from the forum here and elsewhere that the 'black oxide' finish is not very durable so I would like to refinish it right up front.
I would like to cover the action and barrel in tan duracoat as the mcmillan stock coming is painted tan and it appears they use duracoat for their tac rifles and I think the look is great and would like to match this. What I need help with is:
A. Is the black oxide finish sufficient to have duracoat applied directly over after degreasing or should this be blasted first?
B. When refinishing the bolt and receiver what should be masked off from paint? I take it that the chamber and lug recesses directly behind the chamber should not be painted but what about the channels cut for the bolt or the feed rails etc? How far do custom jobs go with paint on the receivers such as a mcmillan rifle or any other boutique rifle?
