I ain't going to be of any help. But I'm curious, as I just started researching MT elk my self, why you wanting to come East? From the little research I've done and word of mouth, LOTS of pressure in the breaks areas, not a lot of big elk, unless you get on private.

Of course I could be talking to the wrong folks and looking in the wrong spots...

If by the belts you are talking about the little belt mountains I have been there bear hunting a few times and plan to go back in the spring. I have always seen elk. If no one else with more experience jumps in your more than welcome to meet me and scout around for a day or two to find a place you would want to come back to in the fall. Tried to look up block management areas on my phone but the print is way to small.
I was also in Yaak two years ago in the early spring. I couldn't believe how much snow was still on the ground and how rural it was. Part of me says you guys are nuts for living there and the other part is jealous.
