I'm in the marker for a nice hunting pack/range bag and am considering an Eberlestock G4 over the Gunslinger for the ability to put more stuff in there if I need to overnight it in the field. Eberlestock offers the older G4 without the Intex frame at a significant discount to the current model which puts the pricing closer to the gunslinger.
Does anyone have experience with both? Are there issues with the Intex frame in the G4 similar to those that have been encountered on the Gunslinger 2 that some hide members have reported?
I've heard nothing but great things from guys who have the older G4, but nothing about the new ones. Any inputs? Thanks guys.

There's this thread - http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...ment/231218-question-gunslinger-ii-users.html where you can read about issues that some folks are having with the intex II frame. I experienced the same with my G4 which has the new intex II frame. Eberlestock is going to release a gossamer frame for the G4 June/July this year which should help.

I have a buddy who has an older legacy G4 with the aluminum stays and he absolutely loves it and has none of the issues noted in the above linked thread, if that is any help.

I had issues with the Intex in regards to impeding on the rifle scabbard but....if I am not packing a rifle I would want the intex for the extra structure it gives the pack.

Ceylon sent me a Gossamer to try and it does improve the load carrying component of the pack without intefering with my fat rifles. Its not as solid as the Intex though.

Im wondering if properly fitted/positioned aluminum stays would be the best of both worlds. Lots of people are able to use their Intex with rifles. I may just be too critical.

I'm hearing the same thing about the aluminum stays, and I haven't heard about any structure issues with it... I'm starting to think for this price the legacy G4 may be a steal. Thanks for the help!

Properly fitted aluminum stays like the old G4? It seems like it may be a really good deal then from Eberlestock. Only catch is they only have "military green" and unicam. If this "military green" is close to OD green, I think I may pick one up.

On another note, do you think the G4 would be suitable as a range bag as well or is it way too bulky?

I just updated that Question for Gunslinger II users post. Ive been trying to think why Eberlestock came up with the Intex II and I think it just came to me.

The scabbard is a flexible joint between the load bearing harness and the load pack. Using it as a rifle garbage can we make acceptances for the instability. If you are not using the scabbard you can "lockout" some of the instability using the provided horizontal straps Eberletock provides. The horizontal straps eliminate lateral movement of the pack on the load bearing harness but....there can still be some vertical movement of the pack on the load bearing panel.

When you have the Intex installed and you wrap the lower Molle panel over the horizontal section of the intex and than secure it to the top pocket you secure the load vertically.

Thats my theory.

Sir,

I have the saddle bags attached to my GSII and carry two cans of spray paint on one side and my rear bag box of ammo on the other. I have a small bag attached for my bipod. In the top pouch I have 3-4 magazines, a borka tool kit. Inside I have gloves hat, spotting scope, and XTC style scope stand.

There is not much room for more. My pack with rifle installed is heavy. If the G4 is bigger I doubt its bigger by much, you may find you fill it fast. I hope you are less of a gear pig than I. Pictures of what I carry are in the previously posted Gunslinger thread.

Hah, I'm just getting started in long range shooting and I have bought so much gear it's crazy... Thank you deployment pay!
According to eberlestock, the g2 is 2700cu and the g4 is 4700, so it's a size able difference, but by the looks of it I may be able to use much of that space.
