Here is a target shot today from an EDM XM408 , off the bipod unsupported. Fired 2 rounds, doped the scope .2 mils up and left, fired 2 more, doped the scope 2 mils up and left, 2 more rounds down range. A total of 6 rounds, 3 ragged holes. Sometimes it is more than the just the shooter. Credit goes to Bill at EDM for my new XM408 "Bolt Action Fuck You Gun", Nightforce for the very best in scopes for the money, and HSM and Rocky Mountain Bullets for ammunition that does the job. The current firearms manufacturers in the US market (and there are many) are masters at their crafts. Life is good behind a sniper rifle.

Great rifle!

When I first saw the target without reading your post or what was written at the bottom of the target I thought,
1. the post was going to be "what's wrong with my rifle?" or
2. Yeah! my new rifle! (thinking: it doen't look good to me, but it's his rifle...

Six bullets ... not three. Very cool.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Same rifle, my "Bolt Action Fuck You Gun", barrel and bolt switched back to .338 Lapua. This is a 20 round group. POI shift from one barrel to the other is .8 mil Left and 1.2 mils Down. More likely than not from going unsuppressed .408 back to suppressed .338

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Glad to see this kind of shooting out of the xm408! I also thought to myself that group doesn't look that good before reading your post. I haven't shot mine yet. I am waiting on my barrel nut, shroud, bipod and carry handle from rnd manufacturing. I am also still in the process of building a safety switch that will work with my Jewell trigger. Have the ammo all loaded up and waiting to go. Looking forward to trying it out!

I suspect it's one of two things: A.) makes manufacturing receivers easier/faster/cheaper or B.) Bill wanted to do something new.

I can't see A being very likely, though that is often the reason for changes like that. B is entirely possible as Bill has been making Windrunners since the 90s and they haven't changed that much in that time.

The new style mag well was coming out of Thor. The production might be coming back to EDM in Utah very soon. Here is the .408 as it shoots.

OK so spill the beans. Why is it going back to Bill?

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

On this day I am thankful for custom .408 Cheytac ammo from HSM. I will chrono the load this weekend and see what they are cranking out.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Why 100 yards? Thats a waste of money, time and barrel life.O wait your shooting EDM and a 408 Cheytac you must have money to burn.

I'm don't see why this is in the Beyond 1000 Yards. It needs to be in the Range Report not here. It has nothing to do with ELR shooting.
Just saying
Sorry for the harsh words. Lovely rifle.

I'm not going to run up my post count and get kicked out over this. So I'm going to edit my post.
But this is what this thread is all about and would love to see what you can do at 2400 yards. I get a thrill reading this thread on guys pushing the envelope. If my money paid for it at least let me get my moneys worth. Make this post more interesting. Lol I don't know you and you don't know me, you don't have to pay my bills. I earn what i have.If you are who you say you are I rather give my money to homeland than some of the worthless people we have in the USA.
Thanks for you service

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Bryce, get a grip. We sight every rifle at 100 yards regardless of the maximum effective range. I did not pay for the rifle or the ammo. You did. Your tax paying dollars up in smoke for the sake of protecting US interests and global security. A complete waste, no doubt. Bill Richie at EDM gave me the barrel and bolt conversion to .408 at no cost. Bill is a true patriot and supporter of the US military and gov't agencies. Please give him all your money. If any of this causes you undue stress, shatters your fragile ego or precipitates mental illness, I agree to pay for half your counciling and medication. And yes, it is a damn good rifle, one that hits beyond 2400 yards on a regular basis. Perhaps you would like me to post those results as well?

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Seeing the target groupings at 100 yards was very informative as there is sometimes a discussion on if the bullets can be stable and accurate at 100 yards or if they need longer distances and it seems like you were getting one hole accuracy out of them.

Its nice to see some tax money going to good use, instead of all the worthless fucks sitting at home collecting it on welfare and medicaid. If I hurt your feelings I dont care!! I support all our warriors both Military and Contractors.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Why would you hurt my feelings? I never brought my feelings here. I totally agree. More to homeland security as I posted before. This has turned into something that has nothing to do with the service, homeland security, or mercenary. Its just I would like to see the rifle do what it is meant to do in the beyond a 1000 yards thread. That is All If I hurt your feeling I don't care. This site is about ideas and theory. Not dick size. I'm done with this. To all a good day and keep them on target.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

In the process of acquiring a new ballistic program that I will be testing in the coming weeks. A 10 year project development. Will be at Dugway Proving Grounds next month employing the hardware/software and will post some .408 targets results at 3000 plus yards. Testing anti personnel ammunition.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

We have set up doppler studies for the .408 ammunition. In the near future we will have accurate data to program the software. No more "trash in, trash out" at 2000 yards.

Re: .408 Cheytac Sight In Results...

Shaky, the target was shot in about :45 minutes. Suppressor was hot, barrel was not too overly heated, still able to touch with bare hands. Shot a fast 5 round string, let rifle cool off, x4. Temperature was 50 F, moderate 5-8 mph tail wind.

Kilmore...great looking gun. I'm up here in Cody Wy. with a 375 Cheytec looking for someone to shoot a long ways with. Can you help ???

Thanks......hold high and shoot straight !!!

Great shooting Kilmore.. Where are my manners...

EDM Arms question.

I was told that if you have the .408 XM and bought the barrel and bolt conversion to a M96, it would only work as a single shot. Is this also true going from M96 to .408 XM? Would you have to shoot the .408 Cheytac as a single shot or is there a product out there that would allow you to use a .408 mag in a M96?

Yes, with the Windrunner conversions you don't get magazine interchangeability, so they effectively become single shot rifles. Perhaps the mag well design amends this? I highly doubt it.
