Looking to buy a new 22LR to hunt with. I have been cruising the Savages and CZs but have now started looking at the Annies. Big problem is there are none around here to look at. It would have to be special ordered.

The rifle would be packed around the woods mostly for squirrels. I have a Shepherd P22 scope, I had to buy a TBolt with it, that is going to go on this rifle.

My question is what series should I be looking at? The 1710 seems to be quite a bit heavier than the 1416. Or am I at the point of diminishing returns on the cost compared to a CZ for hunting?

But damn the annies are pretty

Re: Educate me on anschutz rifles

Owning an Anschutz I can say it is the most accurate rimfire I have ver seen. That said, you do not need an Anshutz to hunt squirrels. A CZ is plenty big medicine for squirrels and will provide more accuracy than you need.
If you have plenty of money then go for it. I would look for a 1416D if I were strictly squirrell hunting. If you want a great gun for any purpose get the MPR. It is a bit on the heavy side but not too much in my opinion for hunting. Look to Creedmoor Sports, Champion Shooters Supply, or Champion's Choice for an Anschutz. Also a greta buy can be had on Gunbroker as well sometimes.

I figured that, but I want to give the squirrel's family the comfort and pride of knowing he was felled by one of the best rimfires out there. Not just a another hillbilly with Marlin Model 60.

Thanks for the other advice too, I'll start searching for a 1416.

Re: Educate me on anschutz rifles

The only problem with an Anschutz is that you will be bored to death with it - same hole every time! Check out the classifieds on rimfire central - good Annies come up regularly. Bought my 1712 there and couldn't be happier.

If you get an Anschutz, you will not be disappointed. As the guys have said, they shoot great. I have an old 54, and it is an outstanding gun. You cannot beat them without spending about $5k.

Re: Educate me on anschutz rifles

handled an Anschutz the other day, belongs to my dad. heavy gun with target barrel on it, but i think it would be a good squirrel gun, though i am used to very heavy rifles and prefer them for my own reasons.
