I'm struggling with where the elbow, on my trigger arm, should be placed? This is while assuming the prone position. The elbow for the rear-bag arm seems to place itself naturally, but the trigger elbow seems to be searching.

Where is your elbow with respect to the shoulder?

Go back to the fundamentals to understand the need for consistent elbow placement. Not your question, but when shooting prone with support from bone alone, movement of the left elbow will cause vertical grouping, while movement of the right elbow will cause horizontal grouping. Proper adjustment of NPA will minimize this stringing, yet hitting exactly where aimed is still not likely.

I don't have an answer for where to put it other than where it allows you to properly place your finger on the trigger, and keeps your shoulders level and straight. Specifics will depend on your rifle and your body and will vary with things like bipod height.
