I'm trying to figure out what caliber would work best for starting out in elr. Itll be build on a 700 action only because I cant really swing a custom action for awhile. I'm looking at the 375 Rum, the 338 Edge, or a 300prc or 7mm-300prc. Any help would be preferred.

I heard somewhere that the Bergaras in 300 PRC (maybe the ridgback?) are using CIP length mags, combine that with the 250gr Atip and you're set. I'd take that over a Remington action but to each their own.

I think you're on to something and that there will be a lot of people following close behind. The ELR world is growing!

300 PRC from your list. Especially with the 230 or 250 A-tip it's a killer combo for a standard magnum action.

I have a 31" Bartlein 5r 9.5-9 gain twist 300 PRC, pushing 225 ELD-M's at 2943fps w/74.6gr RL-26 (a full grain under published max). Even with the ELD's it's no slouch. Run the numbers for a 230 A-tip @ 2925fps. Supersonic past 2000, and with my optic/mount I have enough elevation to get to 2500 or so.

I've shot 4 different bullets with it so far, worst was a hunting bullet @ 1/2-3/4 MOA. All the match projos have been .6 MOA or less. Twice now I've shot 3-4 5-shot groups and had 3-4 holes in the paper. Worst SD so far has been in the mid teens (15 or 16 IIRC), most are in the 5-12fps range. It's my first magnum and has been pretty easy on me as far as getting it to shoot well.

If you want ELR in a long action there is far more power available for unmodified long actions, specifically, the 28 nosler comes to mind. I built one off a Savage long action, used CDI bottom metal. Not loading mine terribly long or using a custom reamer and I get 3100fps out of the Berger 195s - that'll get you ELR.
Sure, you can get out to 2k yards on less power, but it's WAY harder to do. Even if you're an excellent wind reader, a lot of environmental factors can change during TOF that will cause a miss on a lower bc, slower bullet at ELR distances.
Trust me, you want more power if you're serious about ELR.
