Continuing on the tradition of last year this year i was lucky enough again to get a buck on the last weekend of the season.

I've been pretty busy and focused on other things the past two months and havent spent much time in the woods. i decided to give it one last sit Saturday morning, i was hoping to shoot a doe. My wife basically kicked me out of bed as my alarm was going off figured i might as well go and see if anything shows. I also had my new 243 i wanted to break in.

details on that here http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3064335&#Post3064335

I got all set up in the stand and didnt see anything for an Hour after daylight, i was playing on my phone when i heard something come walking in. i figured it would be a doe or little buck to my amazement a buck that i had back in August over 2 miles away came walking in. I have looked for this guy all year but have not been able to locate him

what a way to end the year. He isnt the highest scoring deer but a good mature Fl buck, he weighed in at 180lbs

Re: End of the Year buck...

Congratulations shootone, that's a nice buck. I was just reading an article written by the editor of Quality Whitetails regarding how he had grown tired of hearing the phrase "Big Buck Down" and instead, wants to push the phrase "<span style="text-decoration: underline">Mature</span> Buck Down" to take it's place. He suggested the importance of taking size-for-location into consideration, especially in the coastal GA/FL areas where bucks just don't grow to be Iowa/Illinois/Texas-sized deer. I'm glad you were able to catch back up to that guy and harvest him with a great shot to boot.

Re: End of the Year buck...

Exactly what he said ^

Just the fact that he is full grown or close to it makes him a trophy in my eyes. I think its a bonus that he actually has a Florida trophy rack on top of being mature. Congratulations man

Cool picture with the palm tree in the background by the way, haven't seen those in a while. I grew up in Central Florida and anyone I know would be damn proud of that deer. Had a nice old buck get by me at 47 yards with my bow on Dec 20th. Came to full draw but never got a shot opportunity. Found out a neighbor got him on Dec 29th a few miles away with his 7mag. I did take a mature doe in the last five minutes of light, on the last day of my season so that was cool. In fact I need to call the processor today.

I always hate for the season to end but its cool to end it on a high note.

Re: End of the Year buck...

Thanks guys

Boudin, I will only shoot a deer if i think its mature. I passed a 120in 8 this year that I judged at 2 or 3 years old. in reference the above buck was 106in, I will gladly shoot an older smaller scoring deer than a younger buck with loads of potential.

sadly another memember could not do the same and the young 8 did not make it through the season.

</div></div>Its hard to convince some folks to pass some up and let them age.
