I am thinking of selling my L39A1 and want to know what it is worth. It is not very common so I am having trouble finding comparables. It is in great shape and is very accurate and is also a real one dated 1970 and not a cut down No4. Any info or ideas will be of great help as work is going slow and I may have to cut down on my Enfield collection. Thanks.

bdl ltd. is s specialist in British firearms. I've bought a couple from him. Price was fair. He has a L42A1 for sale now, with pictures, you can compare yours to. About 2/3 way down the page.

The L42 was a lot more rare than the L39, i think there was only about 1000 L42's made (but a shitload of fakes). The L39 was the civilian version of the Enforcer and was mainly a target rifle. Here in the UK there are a lot of the L39's for sale usually around the £500 to £700 mark (about $1000 for a good 1).

The L39A1 is the military target version. The Enforcer is a police sniper rifle and the Envoy is the civilian target version. I am told there are about 1200 L39's out there. They can be had for a good price in England where most of them reside.
I know the L42 is more expensive and usually comes with many more extras, I am curious what mine is worth in the US. Thanks for the input.

The L39A1 is target only except for the 'Enforcer' which has the 5E/4 target sights that are removed when a Pecar 4-10X scope is fitted on PH steel bases with PH RAL4 rings. The L42A1's and the Enforcer have the specialised mags for 7.62 NATO. The L39A1 had the standard .303 BR mag fitted to act as a ramp for single loading and was not a repeating rifle. I have no idea what one would sell for there. Does it have the PH 5E/4 sights or AJ Parker 7.62 sights fitted? Or has it got the .303 calibrated 5C sights which are more readily available? Depending on the sight type will either increase or decrease it's value. As would the type of magazine. Target rifle collectors are a fairly niche market. Good luck with the sale.
