EP #95 support hand question

Over the weekend I caught up with EP #95 and I recall some information on the thumb of the support hand being used to apply pressure on the butt of the rifle to help mitigate fishtailing. There was also something about the index finger that I did not quite get. Hopefully someone here can elaborate.

I think what he is referring to is he sets his supporting hand toward the top of the rear bag and squeezes it with his 3 bottom fingers and palm. While doing so, he pinches the bottom of the stock with his thumb and pointer. This provides lateral resistance to the rear of the rifle from moving side-to-side on top of the rear bag.
