@Lowlight Your rant on LE equipment is spot on. I'm not on the sniper team so I don't have that battle, but it's a mindset across the board. In my experience the people making the purchasing decisions are generally guys who fancy themselves knowledgable, but haven't kept up on latest technology and techniques since their promotion however many years ago and they're still forcing through purchasing decisions with outdated information, or information from bad sources. Combine that with requirements to put out bids for products and next thing you know, you end up with thousands of rounds of garbage remanufactured practice 9mm ammo because you could get an extra 10k for the same price as a better quality factory ammo. You can get around that with proper justification to why you need to spend the extra money on something better, but again, the people making those decisions don't know why it's better or necessary.
A local agency here issues hobby grade patrol rifles to their officers and they have nothing but issues getting them to function reliably. I think it borders on negligence.
Keep up the good fight, Frank! More people need to be calling this stuff out if it's ever going to change. People's lives, officer's and citizen's, depend on this stuff.
