I would certainly hope so. I'm not even sure I can comprehend how bad this situation is going to get, or what anyone is going to try to do to rectify it.

It may not get soooo bad. If the dudes running the demand site on the tor network are the real and only holders of the data, they may have whiter hats than most. Asking for 600BTC (worth about what those execs sold off in stocks a few days ago) to stop them from releasing all the data on September 15th. They make it sound like they're pissed that stuff like what they did can be done, which is why they did it. Proving a point, forcing people to change, etc etc.

Could all just go away.

Agree with the previous poster.
Sec 144 stock (insider stock) is not something you can just decide to sell. Even if they're outside the 144 timeline, they're still insiders.
The SEC has a field day with yoyos like these guys.
