I'm working up a load for the 87gr V-Max in a standard 243Win (Savage Model 11) using H414 and CCI400 primers. While it was too dark for my chrono to work right I did run a series of loads to test for pressure, 43.5gr to 45.1gr in .2gr increments. While the chrono was throwing errors I did get a single reading of 3266 fps at 44.5gr, though I don't know if I trust it with all the errors.

Pressure seemed fine on all loads, bolt was starting to turn a little harder toward the top but not yet sticky, absolutely no extractor mark and no signs on the primer either.

As a guideline, what is the typical velocity range I can aim for with this bullet? I've seen posts of people shooting loads from 3000 fps all the way to 3300 fps.

For now, I loaded up three shells each at 44.5, 44.7, 44.9, 45.1, and 45.3gr to shoot for groups but am waiting for a weekend so I can shoot when I have enough light to get reliable velocity readings.

Your velocity seems about right. I use the H4350 and I haven't looked back. ES always <15 and SD always <8. As an added bonus, 20 fps difference between 15*F and 95*F. Did I mention accurate too?

I ran several groups today, 44.5 to 45.3 grains took me from 3200 fps up to about 3280 fps. 44.5 and 45.1 looked "ok" accuracy-wise (sub-inch, this is a cheap Savage package rifle with sporter barrel after all). No pressure signs so just for kicks I loaded up 5 at those two but also 45.5gr H414. I measured the 5-shot group and also counting 4 and throwing out the furthest off from each assuming I'd make an error (I'm interested in figuring out the best load not bragging about group size so I figure it's fair to assume I'm not perfect every shot).

I was really surprised to see the 45.5gr group come out half the size of the others counted both ways, four of the shots were a ragged oblong hole. No chrono set up on that round of shooting but I'd say 3280-3300 fps, I think I'll stay with that.
