I am curious. What's the general experience users have had with the SCAR rifles? 16 & 17? I have seen them for a few years and honestly....never paid them much mind.
To me "not standard" to an AR, looks weird, and straight up appears to be a pig and unweidly. You know....OH GREAT...another 14lb rifle all the Xbox'er think is cool. Pardon me while I vomit since I am the one actually carrying it.
Well....I had a chance to play with a SCAR 16 in private. And tell you what...I was pretty impressed. Really, really impressed. Folding stock, fully adjustable comb and LOP, ambi-controls (minus bolt release), BUIS included, sling-points included, center rail so I can keep a light with no off-set (off-hand cornering), chrome lined barrel that is user switchable to different lengths, side-charging handle (ambi). And it's a ground-up piston system for those so inclined. SBR it to a 12" barrel and I would think it's perfect.
I have intentionally avoided these types of systems since there are so many fads. But I was so intrigued after playtime I got on the net and started researching the SCAR 16-17. You know...ACTUALLY paying attention.
I think I am really getting it. And all the modularity for the SOCOM / SEAL guys seems fantastic (config, barrels, stocks, grenade launcher.
What's the word on the street with users here? I know about the decision concerning the 16 with SOCOM but keeping the 17. I think that was just spending money wisely. My point is I don't look at this decision, good or bad, as anything other than short-game.
What do the gray-beards around here think? Well...maybe the salt-n-pepper beards who actually hump rifles.
Regards,
Greyson
