So I traded into BgBmBoo's 6XC last month. A few of AZ LRPRS's shooters have been having good luck with the caliber and I wanted to get away from the semi I was shooting.

The 6XC came in and she was a big heavy brute (kinda like shankster's women), but she got the job done for BgBmBoo well! I got into it because he had successfully shot 600yd BR with it, so I figured it'd shoot.

Here's how I got her-
Surgeon 591 action, Jewell HVR trigger, Bartlein 7.5 twist 6XC with a REALLY heavy contour, 28ish inches with a gigantic Badger FTE brake hanging out there. Is sat in JP MOR chassis and I wanted to get behind a stock like that.

As soon as I opened it up, I got behind it and immediately knew the JP chassis wasn't for me. ballistic1 here on the hide had expressed interest in it when GandR had it posted, so I contacted him and we worked out a deal getting him into it. Actually, I called 30calsniper over at Manners and talked to him first and had ballistic1 send payment straight to Manners to lock in my T2A mini chassis that Tom let Todd get into production for me.

Now I had a big ass barrled action. I'm not afraid of heavy barrels, but am not married to them anymore, esp in a 6mm. I contacted Frank over at Bartlein and talked to him about getting my steel on a diet. Frank explained that fluting after chambering isn't kosher if you go deeper than .010" and that wouldn't save much weight. After clarifying that contouring would not have a negative affect on the harmonics I sent it in for a Tubb contour with 2.4" straight shank. Frank explained they have a fixture for the threaded chamber end, but that it would need a new crown if contoured. That was fine with me, as I wanted to lose the FTE and go with a recessed crown. For a very reasonable price and relatively quick turnaround my barreled action went in, and came back much lighter, with a M40 "kiss of death" (Bartlein's word's) muzzle 26" from the receiver.

The barreled action got here, I stuck a earplug in the muzzle, and broke out the Duracoat kit I won at the ScoreHigh match in May and made the barrel match a little better to the nicely cerakoted action.

Right before the package from Bartlein arrived, my T2A got here, sporting a great GenII GAP Desert paint job courtesy of Todd. Thanks Bro!!
I was worried a little, because I had specified that I wanted the barrel contour to be a Tubb with a 2.400 straight shank 1.250" diameter. I told Todd that a Med Palma would be close enough as long as the chamber end's dimensions were right, but you never know until you have both parts.

I reinstalled the Jewell and adjusted it to 1.5lbs then dropped the barreld action into the MCS mini chassis. It fit PERFECTLY!! The only change I had to make was that I prefer hex action screws to Torx, but that ain't nothing! The bolt handle clearance, trigger clearance, etc was fine. The barrel channel I was sweating was cut like Manners had the barrel in hand to set the mill up with and the barrel channel's alignment with the mini chassis is spot on. Manners has their shit wired tight, thanks guys!!

Ahhh, this is a little more my speed!

I mounted up my USO 5-25 PSR prototype, stole the RAD TacLatch off my 308, and took it out the next day. Stan (BgBmBoo) shared his load with me and I just did it and worked up a little. I had 38 round, 8 to zero and enough for chrono/and a group of each of three loads at 100 and 300.

Looks like Frank at Bartlein was right on the re-contouring, this rifle inthe first fifteen round dropped better groups on target than I've seen at my hands. First five shot group using Stan's favorite load was a 5 shot group that was .341 moa and had an SD of 6! The 39.3 laod got wide, because it started getting a hard bolt lift and my head was off the stock between shots...

Stepping back to 300yds, the fact that I was shooting after working a graveyard showed up and the groups opened up to just sub-moa, except the one of the three that was .34 moa!

I switched scopes, because I realized that I really prefer USO's ERGO objective to my only T-Pal and re-zeroed Friday. 3 ten shot groups in rapid fire were all sub moa, and I shot a SH training target with 3/4" circles at 100 and 5/5 rounds went into the white 3/8" centers on those too!

Now the really impressive point is that Steve don't shoot groups for a damn! To see so many rounds stay inside the little 1 moa tall diamonds was great and I'm still ecstatic.

This morning I took it out to a 500yd prone/F-Class match and the first time shooting it at farther than three it posted a first string of 199-12X and my first shot was the 9, and it was 1/2" out of the ten ring! I got too cocky and didn't shoot that well the next two string, but it still shot well enough to place me second with a 578-22X. Not bad for a steel shooter....

I think I'm in love! Thanks to Manners and Bartlein for getting me hooked up, and as always, my US Optics did exactly what they do!

The only cons I have are that I wish the KMW loggerhead had one more slot of "up" for the e-clip. That said everything else is the best this shooter's had in the safe!

Next stop, OKLAHOMA!!!!

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

What pill are you sending down range? 115 or 105, 107? I like the new make over. Pretty tacti-cool looking. And it definitely performs from the look of your targets.

Nice write up - thanks.

On the loggerhead, mine was not staying tight so I dropped in a thin lock washer. This pushes the rod "out" a washer width. There seems to be plenty of thread to the nut inside so this might get you one more "up".

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

OF10- I just wish I could get another 1/4" or so of adjustment, the lockup on this and the other Loggerhead's I've had is outstanding.

bb2-probably. Until something better comes along this is probably gonna be my main match rifle. I may mix it up and shoot my 6.5 Creedmoor or even my 308 for local matches still, or just stock up on barrels.

M.45-thanks, it has the sage green USO 3.8-22 from the Creedmoor riding it now so its not as aesthetically pleasing, but my favorite USO will be riding my best rifle!

USO screw in aluminum cover-lets me get lower than bikini's or BC on the front.

I do run their ARD all the time, but its a more open design than the Tenebraex/KillFlash styles. I find the USO enhances depth perception for targets in shadows, while the finer types actually dim the sight picture.

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

Overflow,

Please PM or email me the details of your LoggerHead hardware not staying tight. I have not had this problem reported before and would like to know if your hardware is out of spec, etc.

By design, the lower clamp system has a "spring" or flex to it that is suppossed to keep the crossbolt from working loose.

How old is your hardware? Was it delivered in a Manners stock or installed by KMW? We take all of our products seriously and want to make sure yours is working as designed. If anything needs correcting, it would be done at no charge to you.

REF Sobrbiker883 comment on length:
More and more scopes are being mounted higher on many of the work rifles out there. To accomodate this, I am running an extra long leg set as an option for the LoggerHead installations.

These are not recommended unless you cannot get enough vertical height in the current CP adjustment. Installing the longer legs into a stock setup that already accomodates your correct head position will result in the legs bottoming out inside the stock before the CP can adjust all the way down.

Details, pricing and availability will be posted once they are here and the information is prepared for distribution.

Thanks for the feedback.

Nice Manners there Steve.

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

Looks good, thanks for posting some pictures!

I'm curious, why is it not kosher to flute a chambered barrel? It seems like re-contouring a chambered barrel would have similar effects, if they are somehow negative. Thanks.

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

Recontouring is a symetrical change over the entire barrel and while it will have different harmonics they will be consistent, and consistent is accurate, at least that's the gist of it as I understood it.

Dagsta, I'm sure I'll think of something. Its WAY nicer than I thought I'd ever have, but there's always something.....

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

Steve,

An outstanding looking and shooting rifle. Bring it east, so we can all admire it, and it is too dang hot in the desert......

Re: Extreme Makeover-Surgeon edition

Thanks Bob. I want to get out there!!

I tell you, after shooting a 199-12 for the first string I had a hard time laying prone for the next two strings

DM-not sure, I don't have a good scale and the wife has a family of f'kin foster cats in the extra bathroom., so I don't go in there. I know it doesn't tell you much, but it weighs about the same as my 6.5 Creedmoor with the same profile in a McM A3 adj
