I am slowly getting my projects together and need to decide which scope goes where!!! I have a .308 in a McMillan A5 and a 300wm in a A3. Now I need to figure out the optics. I have a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LR MD with a eye relief of 3.6 to 3.8 and a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 v-plex with a eye relief of 3.1 to 3.3.
I am leaning towards the SIII on the 300wm because of the recoil and more eye relief even though I put a FTE brake on it.

Any input would be great.

Re: Eye relief set up?

If it was me I'd go with the longer eye relief on the mag, I agree with your feelings.Later on as you play with the rifle/ reticle combo you might move them around but start there.Oh and we'd like to see some pics!

Re: Eye relief set up?

Logically, your ideas make sense. But..., we are only talking about .5' of difference. If the stock's LOP (Length Of Pull) is inadequate, neither choice is going to ensure you don't get beaned by the scope's eyepiece bell.
