My rifle is off at GAP and it's time for me to decide on a scope while it's gone. I plan to shoot f-class when I can so I need a multi-role optic. The rest of the time I will be shooting steel and punching holes in paper and various distances. I have narrowed it down to two scopes. S&B 5-25 and Premier 5-25. This is a big step up from my 3.5-10 Mk4. Hope it's worth it.

I need some input on my two choices. Are they sutible for what I want to do? Mil or moa turrents? I really like mils but is moa more suitable for f-class?

With my budget this will be a one time deal so I need to get this one right.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: F-Class optic

Mil or moa is not really relevant, use what you know. You may want to get a finer adjustment (0.05mil) as this could help center you better when there is no wind.

I personally like to shoot at around 20-25x so I can see the targets next to me and not be bothered with mirage (not so much an issue here in de EU). I always use a 1/8th target dot reticle as I think it helps and makes looking through the scope for longer periods a bit easier to keep in focus (the very thin lines can start to get to you). But magnification and reticles are a personal choice in the end.

You will want to avoid thick crosshairs as your X-ring is only 0.5moa in diameter. Hence a .1mil click would make it difficult to center unless you are holding off.

Just my €0.02

Re: F-Class optic

I shoot two types of scopes. One is the S&B 5x25 and 4x16 P4 fine moa turrets. My son shoots NF 5x22 scopes NPR1. Sometimes when shooting you will shoot better on lower power scopes due to mirage and sight picture. At 600 yards and 800 yards in F-Class I don't think the higher mag is all that important. I might be disputed on this but one of my best strings was shot on 12X (198 12X). The S&Bs are to me the best choice for a scope with money available. It will serve your needs for tactical and F-Class. Good luck, and Good shooting

Re: F-Class optic

My take on the MOA/MIL question. The X ring of the 600 yard F-Class target is 3 inches. At 600 yards the .10 Mil will move you 2.16 inches if my math is correct, a 1/4 MOA will move you 1.5 inches. At 1000 yards, with a 5 inch X ring, a .10 Mil moves you 3.6 inches, a 1/4 MOA will move you 2.5 inches. For a dedicated F-Class rifle 1/4 MOA (or smaller adjustment) may be better, otherwise you hold would have to be almost perfect to hit the X-ring. Not that you can't use the Mil adjustment for F-Class it is just courser that MOA for this type of shooting. YMMV

Good luck

Re: F-Class optic

I don't have any personal experience with S&B or Premier but it seems as though most of the guys on here like the S&B's more. At least that's what I have picked up on through all of the threads I have read.
