read recently that factory crimp die makes more consistent "start" pressures eliminating or lessening the need for "in the lands" type seating depths. can anyone confirm or debunk this for me from experience. its for a .308 and prolly gonna be applied in m1a with a long throat.

Re: factory crimp and lands seating

I used to crimp all my ammo. I saw no difference in groups sizes. As for seating into the lands. That is more of a bullet specific thing. Bergers like to seated touching or jammed into them a bit. Where as others prefer a little bit of a jump to them.

this is just what i read in the factory crimp die instructions. so far have not used it but was curious what anybody with REAL sniper experience would say, lol.

I am NOT nor have I ever been a "sniper". (Well... of anything other than paper and varmits.) But I stayed at a Holiday Inn once. Does that count?
