Yeah,look I have a 264 win mag. I will mainly be shootting paper targets up to 500yards. But mainly around 100 to 200 yards away. With the Aussie dollar doing so well is it worth me buying a Leupold Mk4 4.5-14*40LR/T or a Falcon Menace 4-14*44 FFP? Saw the review with the Menace-outstanding. The Leupolds in the States are around A$300 cheaper than if I bought it in Australia where everything is dearer. Thanks

Ant264, no one can tell you what scope to buy.
I think it boils down to what toy are you willing to pay for and be happy with.
I have a Falcon Menace and have seen it compared to a Leupold a couple of times here.
For light (or heavy in your case?) paper punching I would not be putting a lot of money into a scope. I would also say that the turrets are a little large for hunting IMO.
It does work well and will accurately dial out to 500 and back.
Only you can say if the extra $$$ for a Leupold is worth it.

Id definitely go with the Falcon for your intended purposes. Im not saying leupold is a bad scope but their quality control has suffered a little as of late. That said i have 2 Leupold VXIII but they are on deer rifles that get shot 10 times a year. The falcon is going to give you a better package all around given your purpose for the optic.

I have a box with a brand new 4.5-14x50mm LR/T sitting here. When comparing it to my Falcon 4-14x44FFP there is not enough of a difference to justify the price.
The optics are a wash. Both perform equally well in daylight and low-light. The Leupold has the option for an illuminated reticle. This is a consideration if you shoot at night a lot. The Falcon reticle is hard to pickup in low light at low magnification. If you don't shoot at night, it doesn't matter.
Both feel beefy and well constructed.
I prefer the feel of the turrets on the Falcon. They are more audible but less tactile compared to the Leupold. Much of this is personal preference. I also prefer the knob design on the Falcon. The drawback is the larger knobs can more easily spin in the drag bag. This isn't a problem if you check your zero when you pull the rifle out.
Lastly there is the SFP v. FFP argument. That is going to come down to personal preference. I like FFP. Less to worry about.
If it were me, I would choose the Falcon. While mine was on my work rifle I never considered switching to a Leupold. The Falcon worked well until it was replaced by my USO SN-3. Hopefully soon the Falcon will get mounted on my AR10. The Mk4 I have here is going on a department owned rifle. If it was my money I would have gone a different route, but the Mk4 is a LE Standard and is taught in many of the schools we attend, so that is what they wanted.

I love my Falcon, but if you are the sort of person that measures your groups in thousandths of inches (or hundredths of MM
) you might be happier with a thinner reticle. This is my only complaint about the Falcon, and it's not really that important to me. For center of mass shooting, or even rough group evaluation it's perfectly fine. But it was not designed for precision bench shooting. Just a thought.

The Falcon looks the way togo, I am just worried about the 5 year warranty. The rifle is going to grow into a custom rifle. Replacing barrel for a 26 inch target barrel. But I thought I better start with replacing the scope first.

A lot of people are of the mindset that if it isn't going to screw up in 5 years then it isn't going to screw up.
Even then, if you are that worried about it, put away $7 every month and you'll have plenty to buy another scope when the warranty runs out.
