Looking for something equivalent to Trail Boss for loading an AR .308 1:10 20" Subsonic. I don't have much experience with the fast burning powders like Trail Boss. I know it is bulky a powder.... is there something out there that works well. I would like to use Lapua 200gr FMJ Subs, or Lapua 220gr FMJBT, these are what I use in my 300BO...
thanks in advance...

A1680 is a fine ball powder fyi so if you’re trying to fill the case not the best choice. I’ve read where when it spreads out that much it’s inconsistent. I have no personal experience except in 300 Blk, which it’s incredible for super and subs.

Actually most of these suggestions are not very good. A powder like IMR 4227, AA 1680, etc is completely wrong for a low case fill application IE subsonic in 308 Win.

AA5744 is pretty much unobtainable.

There are several other threads about this, as well as data in "subsonic loads" sticky.

A fluffy fast burning shotgun/pistol powder is the best choice. Red Dot, High Gun, etc. They will produce the best case fill, lowest ES/SS, and are designed to burn completely/consistently at the lower pressures shotguns produce (which are just like sub loads).

I have also worked up a few subsonic loads using the Vihta N330/340 powders in 300 BLK, but not 308 Win.

None of these will even be close to cycling a 308 AR.

Hey David , you have any loads for subsonic 308 using sr4759? Thanks
No I don't. I have used 4759 mostly in 30-06 1903. I run 21 gns of it and get like 1600 fps. I also use 125 gn SMK as the projectile. The only 308 I have is a M1 I rebarreled in 308 and in order to cycle the action I run 36 gn of H4995. The oprod is so slow you can watch it cycle and the shell eject if you look just to the right of the sights. I tried 4759 but it wouldn't cycle the action.

But those bolt action 30-06 are so easy to shoot and still pretty accurate.

How about Shooters World Buffalo? I’ve not used it and I’m not sure how available it is, but it might be worth a look. 5744 is good if you can find it and afford it.

Another thing I did for these smaller loads in bigger brass was to use puff-lon. Unfortunately he is not in business anymore. It is a ballistic filler that keeps the powder down at the flash hole. This gives you a consistent ignition and therefore better groups. The only disadvantage is it doesn't burn so it makes things a little dirty. My bolts are OK but I have to take my air compressor to the M1 to blow it out.

Great find, looks like a 5744 clone...
