After having my 9 year old son in the woods several times this year with no success we began our last day morning hunt with the pressures of hoping to take a deer. At first light a deer entered the field at 159 yards and still quite dark I could tell by the deers posture it was a buck but could not tell antler size. I watched him for a few minutes until I was comfortable it was safe to shoot and told him he would have to use my rifle, Savage .260 build with 140 bergers, since I knew his 6x would not draw the light like my Leupy Mark 4. I did not tell him it was a buck to ease the adreneline. At the crack he dropped with a perfect high shoulder hit. When we walked up to him we saw more headgear on this dude than we would have ever expected! No ground shrinkage here for sure! 17" inside spread 18 1/4" outside. After the pictures we changed spots and jumped another 8 pointer which I took with a 60 yard running shot again high shoulder, lucky most likely, but never the less two buck same morning, same rifle, what more could a father and son ask for.
