Just got back from playing around with my 1903 Unertl build. Primary mission for the day was to practice with the 6.5 SAUM for antelope, but the old stuff makes for a fun break. I had 10 of my reloads that have been sitting for a while collecting dust. I figured I'd take the '03 and m1917 out today to finish them off so I can reload a new batch of 50, and blast some of my M2 ball supply.
I'm loading a 178 Hornady HPBT under 56.5gr of H4350 in LC69 brass (I do NOT shoot this load in the Garand). Surprisingly accurate out of the '03, the plate is at 370 yards (5 round zero check, 5 on the plate). The high left hit I forgot to pull the scope back. I've just been impressed as hell with this thing, though. 3-42 Springfield rebarrel, 1918 Springfield action (950k range serial). I never would have expected accuracy like that. Zero does shift around a little bit throughout the year, but so long as I start the day off with a 100yd zero check, everything is consistent. Shot it out as far as 1000yd a few times with great results, considering what it is.
