Also gonna throw out a SWAG that this is being done rather broadly with the consent of a variety of website operators, and that it's been done on this very forum.

You are missing the point. If the FBI had actual probable cause that the information requested is evidence of an actual crime, they would have sworn out an affidavit, gone to a judge and gotten a warrant. You can't argue with a warrant. Period.

But they didn't do that. They sent a subpoena, almost certainly drawn up by an FBI attorney. No judge involved. No probable cause involved. It's just "give us this because we want it." I know. I've prepared them. Fill in the blanks of the template. Affix postage. Mail. Easy.

Not having a warrant is presumptive evidence of not having probable cause. And if they wanted to crack down on pedophiles, something probably everyone on this site would love to see, they can start with the flight manifests of Jeffrey Epstein's jet. I'm not holding my breath.

Hard to track people on anonymous servers, but easier to track on a site like USA Today plus more likely to let their guard down and not use a proxy or anything.
