Range Report Federal 150gr FMJ

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

Well I can’t comment on the 308 load but I have shot the 150 grain AE rounds out of my 30-06 Remmy 700 and I saw groups a little over twice the size of the 168 grain Federal GMM, about 1.5- 2.0” at 100 yards. That was with the cheap factory Remington stock, I have not tested any since I upgraded to a B&C stock so they could be capable of printing smaller groups. An interesting performance note they did average 125 FPS faster than advertised through a 24” tube when chronographed. YMMV

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

I shot a bit of 150gr AE ammo out of my Rem PSS when it was stock several years back. Grouped right at 1moa at 100 yards and I had no issue hitting a steel silhouette at 1k repeatedly.

My shooting partner found it interesting since it is cheap ammo and many think it won't make it to 1,000 yards.

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

Thanks for the info did anyone estimate wind drift at 100yds? I shot 21rnds the other day with strong gusts and the group was about 2.5 MOA. On one note I put 20rnds of Black Hills 168gr SMK in about 1.5moa group in approximately the same conditions on the other I am to green to be a fair judge of ammunition accuracy.

Thanks

Dill

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

Shooting at 100 yards isn't going to get you a good idea as far as wind drift. Plug it into a ballistic calculator and see what you get. Mine is in my truck but maybe I will look it up tomorrow and post it. Being a light bullet with a flat base it is going to have a lot more wind drift than say a 175gr SMK with a boattail.

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

Closest I could get on my ballistic calculator was M80 ball, 149 gr FMJ flatbase ammo. It is the military ammo for 7.62x51mm machineguns. Went transonic at 944 yards and had I believe 123” of wind drift at 1000 yards.

Compare to Black Hills Match with a 175 gr SMK at 100”, or my 155gr Lapua at 84”.

FYI I saw the Federal 150gr for sale at a local gun shop for $14 a box. Cheapest I have seen in quite a while.

Re: Federal 150gr FMJ

Thanks for the assist. I have more so, I am going to give it another go hopefully when the wind isn't bad. The price can't really be beat except by Privi if it shoots good enough.
