I am looking for a good long range ammo. I was looking at whats listed above. Which would be a better choice? There is a $52 difference between Federal and the Dallas reloads, I think mainly because of the brass, which I had Dallas Reloads price me for Lapua Brass.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I've had fantastic results with Southwest Ammunition. The price is right and in my experience, the quality and performance is right there with FGMM and Black Hills.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I just watched the Video Frank (Lowlight) did. I am thinking about getting Southwest and when I shoot all of them sending the Lapua Brass to Dallas reloads and see how they are since they will reload the customers brass.

Thank you for the quick response. I still want to hear what others have to say also so please chime in.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

Our ammo has been improved significantly since Frank made the first video. The new FC brass load that we are testing is proving to be every bit as good as our Premium Lapua cased ammo. I'll put either one up against any other manufacturer, and anyone's magazine length (2.820" COAL) handloads.

Had a local customer test some through his Crusader today, here is his group:

Those are the only 5 shots he fired.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Is the FC Brass as good as the Lapua?

I am thinking of ordering some in the next week or so. I can't make up my mind on whether to get your new stuff with the FC Brass or get Lapua Brass. Will your new FC Brass and ammo perform out to 1000yd as good as the Premium?

We are pushing 2660 out of most barrels 24". If you reload personally then get the Lapua brass, but you can almost shoot twice for the same price with our new load in FC brass. All of our products will be using this load from now on.

By the way we are going to call this product: SW118

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I dont reload yet but I am wanting to get started (not sure when either, I am still getting everything) thats why I was looking at the Lapua brass.

Winchester brass is very reloadable, LC, FC(military stuff). I would say brass selection is more of a nitch than anything else.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I've shot all 3 brands.

Chad (Dallas Reloads) produces outstanding loads in 260.

In 308 FGMM is far superior to Southwest. Hands down.
Many experienced reloaders find it difficult to beat FGMM.
If anyone can, I'd wager Chad's the one.

The key difference is Chad will build loads JUST for your rifle.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I'd go SW or Dallas in a heartbeat.

I don't know if SW offers a custom tune load for your rifle like Dallas does. If they do, that's great and either would be excellent I'm sure.

I've dealt with Chad @ Dallas though and his tuned loads are phenomenal for rifles. You're getting all the benefits of reloading without having to do it yourself. That's what would make the decision for me.

I've never heard an "experienced reloader" say that they can't beat FGMM but perhaps some of those "experienced" reloaders exist.

I know that my reloads beat the pants off FGMM and it doesn't cost anywhere near $1.20/rd

I second this, not to discredit anyone else. But SWA is very very good. Can't beat their run N gun for the price. Consistently give me 1/2 MOA out of my mk12.

He goes to the range and only fires 5 shots?

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I think I am going to try some SWA. I just need to figure out weather to try the new stuff in the FC Brass or get the Premium.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

If you reload, get the Premium. If you don't, go with the FC (looks to be FC mil, which is good brass) and buy more ammo.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

The SWA Run and Gun 168 Amax is a steal at $16.99 a box.

It's very consistent and will do five rounds.5 MOA easily. My best today was .39 MOA and that includes the flyer.

Try the stuff, I really recommend it.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

Mike,

I have a question, Is the ammo in the FC brass produced the same way as the Premium just different Brass? Meaning powder, primer act.

Re: Federal Gold Medal vs Dallas Reloads vs Southwest

I might do that. My rifle is out right now getting rebarreled at APA though. I will not be able to try them for about a month. I am looking to buy some next week, probably tomorrow.
