I was duly impressed with this ammo. I have never shot a group so small @50m as I did time and time again today. Group sizes were about as big as a 308 bullet hole. I took it out to 100 and shot under a inch for every group. I had a hard time getting under a inch with my 308 today, but the 22 was rockin. I paid 20 buck a box for this stuff which is super high. I wanted to see what my MKII would do with me and the best ammo and I wasn't disappointed. I had some Wolf match extra and I never got around to shooting it, but I need to test it because it is half as cheap as the Federal. No pics since I was having too much fun. I shot a psuedo tactical match @50m with a buddy and I felt we needed to take it to 100m to be challenging. We were just shooting at 1 inch circles, but I definitely want to try the dot drills and stuff from the mail in matches in the future.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

I am not surprised. German ammo can be amazing.

Fderal AutoMatch and Federal UltraMatch aren't even made by the same company.

If you want performance you have to shell out more money in 22lr....period.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

Reading reviews on this ammo, some shooters are making the claim that this is not the original Federal Ultramatch ammo from the 90's that was manufactured here in the USA, rather these rounds are being made in Germany. Personally I don't have a problem with it since I shoot SK and Wolf, but for the $ they charge I hope you are getting the best performance money can buy. Some recent reviews have shooters saying that they were getting better performance with the regular Federal standard match ammo.

As with anything, the only way to determine which load your rifle handles best is to try em all out..if I could find a better shooting load for less $ than ultramatch goes for, I wouldn't hesitate personally.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

Tennessee's state smallbore champion was shooting Federal Ultramatch this weekend when he won state. I'd say it shoots pretty good. 3196 out of 3200 points. I don't remember his x-count, but it was in the 220 range.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

It is different... there isn't dimple on the new stuff... but it shoots GREAT!! And again, the R50 shoots exectly like it for me and is 2/3 the price! I was thrilled as 3-500 rounds a week adds up quick at $19 a box!

Re: Federal Ultramatch

You are spot on about the packaging RR, Ultramatch HAS to be R-50. I have not had any luck with R-50 however. If you open the flap on some 922A it says "R-50-Stanze" I do believe Stanze means line in German, you get the picture. The 922A has a black carrier and the UM has a red carrier like the R-50....I think that is interesting. I need to buy some Rifle Match RWS to confirm my theory that 922A is RWS RM which would indicate to me that much ammo comes off the R-50 line and possibly is given its proper nomenclature after testing.
I know exactly why some aren't having luck with the various RWS offerings including 922A and UM, but I will plead the 5th. There are some things I choose not to educate people about because I don't want there to be a run on the best ammo.
The 700 series of Federal match is rife with fliers and I have shot plenty enough to know that, there may however be an exceptional "run" now and then. Only when you know what is being done with a particular ammo, can you judge its quality. 50 yd groups will never tell you what an ammo will do at 250yds. If you test your ammo at 50 you do not know how it will do at long range. If you test your ammo at long range the 50 yd performance will take care of itself.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

sounds like I will have to find some R50. Again this was the first time I had ever put anything other than Federal bulk pack in the gun. I was absolutely astonished to shoot a group under a inch at 100m with a rimfire. Now to try 200m.

Rico, I am not seeing it for sale there. I would try it out if it shoots like RWS R-50, which is my new go to for 100+ yards. For 50 yards, Eley is still the king.

Re: Federal Ultramatch

Try this link Carter... http://www.iss-internationalshootersservice.com/ammunition.html

He has both Eley and RWS, his Eley pricing is not outstanding though. He has Tenex at $19.35 and Match at $13.40

Eley "WAS" my choice until this. The Black Box Match shoots fantastic as well.

- EDIT!!! Carter, I may have read it wrong. I shoot the R-50 now... not the FGMUM as the R-50 is cheaper!

Re: Federal Ultramatch

You are shooting R-50, very nearly at least. Ultra-Match and Gold Medal are both made by RWS for Federal. It is not the same stuff as the old UM22. Still works pretty good though.
