im still trying to wrap my head around the difference. FFP the reticle zooms with the power of the scope. with SFP the reticle stays the same size.

so if i adjust for 2 mills of windage at 850 yards with my FFP scope on 5 power and then adjust up to 25 power will it still be the same unit of measurement on the reticle? holding 2 mills of windage will always be the same 2 mills on any power at a given range correct?

Re: FFP/SFP

Here's how to remember it:

With an FFP reticle the reticle size changes so the Mil relationships remain the same.

With a SFP reticle the reticle size remains the same size so the Mil relationships change.

SFP scopes are usually set to range correctly at the highest power. When you dial down the magnification the amount covered by the same size of reticle increases. So, at half power a half-Mil width subtends one Mil (it covers twice as much).

Re: FFP/SFP

ok yeah the scope ill be using is FFP but it was just messing with my head because i know that 1 mill will be a larger measurement at a longer range and a SFP scope would infact create that. so at 1000 yards a man might be .5 mill wide in a FFP scope but in a SFP scope hes 3 mills wide.

so as im writing this more questions are popping up....

in a FFP scope if i adjust 1 mill at 1000 yards is that going to intern make a POA adjustment of 36 inches no matter what power im on?

In a FFP scope, no matter what magnification power setting you're on, a mil in the reticle will be an actual mil. Keep practicing and reading, and you'll get it.

Just remember that mils and moa are measurements of angle, not distance. No matter what distance the target is, if your off by 1 mil, then you will adjust 1 mil.

You seem to be understanding. Use all the links the guys gave you and you'll be fine.
