Bringing this thread back from the dead…
I’ve been fortunate to be able to shoot on Quantico’s 1000 yard Range 4 nearly every weekend for the last 20 years or so.
A couple of guys I shoot with have been Shot Markers for the last year so I figured I’d forgo my usual 25x15 IPSIC steel target and get one of the systems.
After ordering a Shot Marker last February I had a bunch of aluminum delivered to my metal fabricator/hot rod guru buddy and gave him a primitive drawing so he could assemble a frame for me that would fit one of the target carriages on the range.
He began to assemble the fame when he got to a stopping point on the 69
Shelby convertible he was working on…
During assembly he said the frame was the flattest, squarest thing he’d ever made. He couldn’t wait to start welding on it and warp it….
When he finished it, I had to figure out a way to transport it, so I built a rack for the bed of my beat up F150.
I took the frame and mounts to the range to test proof of concept. It worked!
The Shot Marker arrived week before last and I began assembling the sensor mounts, etc.
Believe it or not, you can get five sheets of 60x60 inch cardboard for $52 shipped. A free wooden pallet is included.
This past Wednesday i calibrated the target @ 100 yards at the Northern Virginia Gun Club that’s 110 miles down and back I95 from my home.
The reason I mention the distance is because although the calibration was a complete success, the adhesive on the packing tape I used to attach the backer to the frame failed about 10 minutes after I left the range….the hot sun melted it and the backer ended up folded over my tailgate @ 65mph….
I hit Home Depot and got a 4x8 foot sheet of corplast and some white duct tape.
I was all set to RSO and shoot my target on Range 4 tomorrow when the Marines needed the range at the last minute and canceled us.
Maybe next weekend…
