Going to TLDR this.

Bought some Savage .308BA LE's as a group buy.

My barrel didn't fit the receiver properly -- Only thing keeping it straight was the nut and it was a shit-show...Savage had also "bent" the barrel into place so the recoil lug looked like a monkey fucking a football...Nut cracked when trying to remove it, replaced it with a Northland and fixed 90% of my problem but, barrel still shot like garbage.

Fast forward about 30 phone calls and Savage basically telling me it was my problem for replacing the nut...(Genuinely the last Savage I ever buy from Savage unless this shoots the tits off a Bull)...Called McGowen, ordered a custom barrel and a safe queen she sat.

Originally had an XLR stock...The stock is actually great but, my hand-guard doesn't sit straight...It's rising up and to the left (so barrel is down and to the right)...Just not "happy" with that, personally...I'm going to lap it but, that's going to take a long-ass time so, I bought a Mcree and will make the XLR into a second project. -- Kyle really is a good guy but, I'm done shipping it back and forth...Just going to fix it myself.

Finally got my McGowen on Wednesday...Had it cut to 21.25" and that was that.

Anyway, here's the "completed" build, minus the Cerakote which comes Tuesday. (Will update the thread...)

Specs:

Mcree Folding Savage 4.4 stock
Savage BA LE SA
Savage 110 bolt handle//PTG Head//Body
McGowen 21.25" bull barrel
M11 severe duty brake
Leupold Mk4 8.5x25x50 (Will change the rings, eventually)

It's a fat ass, 17.5 lbs unloaded...But, go big or go home, right?

Shooting this weekend -- Will have pics of some groups.

Thanks to [email protected] @ Parker Gunsmithing...And Savage because the action is rather nice opposed to their douchebaggery.

That looks outstanding!!

I'm working on a very similar build using a Savage 12 action and a 20" Benchmark barrel in .308. Talked with Matt at PA already but can't decide between the M11 and M41 brakes. I think the M11 has a "beefier" look that matches the lines of ther McRee chassis while the M41 matches the XLR chassis better.

You should be pretty happy with that setup... I've got something similar (almost identical stock) sitting downstairs right now. It's a porker to have to haul around, but it doesn't hardly move once the trigger breaks ;)

I may have to check out the barrel nut thing... I've had more than a few factory barrels, and most of them have shot pretty dang good... but I have noticed the excessive 'movement' when tightening things back down. Wasn't sure if it was the barrel threads, the nut, etc.
