I have Richard Franklins DVD on Advanced Reloading and he says that when preparing cases to be Fireformed, that he uses up to .006" of neck tension, seat bullet just kissing the lands and try to load as much powder within acceptable tolerances & the amount that can ofcourse fit in the new unfired cases.

He recommends this as the way to Fireform. Which brings me to ask advice / tips of what methods you guys use for Fire-forming cases... ?

Cheers for your feedback!

Re: Fire-Forming New Cases - Advice needed!

I don't fireform any differently, I just use my regular load. I don't do my case prep until after the first fire(form)ing. I figure the prep needs to be based on the dimensions of the fired case and the chamber in which it was fired. Done this way, the cases are going to fireform at least as well as I need them to. IMHO, getting majorly exacting about the process may be better, but I don't need better. I don't think I'm too unique in that way.

With due respect, handloading can be an avocation, or it can be a necessary evil. The latter for me.

All (but one, a .30BR) of my rifles employ SAAMI chambers, which are optimized to use ammo that does not possess special BR handloading attributes. They respond almost as well to the most basic reloading techniques, done with good diligence, as they do with lots of extra, minutely exacting steps.

My rifles and their ammo exhibit a lot more competitive accuracy than my own meager shooting skills can manage. When I miss, it's not the ammo that's failing.
