Looking at building my first AR-10, not knowing much about this weapons system can anybody tell me if there is going to be an issue with using a LR-308 upper from DPMS and a POF Lower receiver for those are the two main components that I want to use. Thanks for any information Justin Bowerman

Re: First AR-10 build

the way it works on that part at home depot, or any hardware store really, is you walk in and you take the bare upper/lower and you just gotta look thru stuff to find a bushing or pipe or tube or anything along thise lines that may work for you in this application. now you may have to trim this or that, but hey, thats where it gets fun.

also, DPMS changed their upper. if you want to run a forend with a rail and have it match the upper in height, then you will need to use a DPMS railed forend. of you are gonna use a round or tubular style free float or something stock, your good. look at fulton too, they make nice stuff. MEGA is doing a group buy now on matched upper/lowers in the group buy section here on this site

Re: First AR-10 build

Done used a 24 inch lr 308 on a POF 308 lower ended up reaming out the take down and pivot holes oversized, inserting tool steel inserts in the holes with sleve retaining compound and .001 press fit mounted the whole assembly in a mill indicated holes and drilled and reamed the steel inserts .250 onsize light tap with rubber mallet fits pins with absouletly no play or wiggle between the upper and lower. I am happy with the POF lower and i think i will use those lowers from now on on my builds really like the enhanced trigger guard and ambi bolt release. Now i am waiting to get it out to the range to break in the barrel and shoot for groups.

sounds like your going to have a sweet .308 AR,.. and before anyone gives you a rash of crap for it,. Aramalites are the only AR-10's out there & everything else is a .308AR.

what barrel length and are you going to use the stock DPMS barrel or are you going to go the custom route for the tube?

I will be posting pics as soon as i get a chance to take some I am gearing up a web site. I don't know if i will be offering this service as a stand alone or not but it will be part of my custom LR 308 package and possible my high end ar 15 builds. I just don't think people will want to pay the 80 dollars an hour machine labor to take a little wiggle out of a rifle but it makes it nice when you can deliver a customer a custom rifle and it is nice and tight without having a wedge in the receiver or Pins that you have to remove with an allen wrench.

For now i am using the stock barrel and see how it shoots. If it needs a rebarrel I well do it this winter. I am doing to many small jobs to stop them all for something that in the end will be for me unless someone offers me the right price. If if do rebarrel I am thinking something totally custom maybe some of that ground fluting or something cool, I don't want to make it Tacti cool I just want a precision gas gun that will Shoot minute of human a long way away
