I started my first AR build. I decided to go with a 6.8 spc II as a multi-purpose rifle. Here are my specs and I plan to use this post to update as I go.

I'm going slow with the build, I've squared the upper and lower. The Spike's tactical stuff is good stuff. Didn't need much work to square and the parts kit droped right in. Smoothed up the trigger. waiting on the barrel, should be here saturday. Summary of what I got so for.

Summary:
Spikes tactical Upper and Lower
Ace Skeleton Stock
Del-Ton LPK
Houge Grip
YHM Four Rail Free Float Forend Spector length
2 Barrett Mags
3 C product Mags
Magpul Moe trigger guard
bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40
Buffer tube/ spring/ retainer pin and spring
YHM low profile gas block

Re: First AR build--6.8

Put mine together last night, looks pretty good. Wish I went with the SPR contour instead but I'm sure I will appreciate the weight savings.
Now I'm looking at my different loads and determining a good distance to zero at, expect to do the break-in and sighting in process tomorrow.

Re: First AR build--6.8

Can you elaborate? What do you mean it doesn't want to come off?

Just got back from the range, SSA 115gr OTM gave me these numbers. I'm tired, will figure out ES/SD/AV later, unless you want to do the math right now.(16" ARP 6.8x43 recon, chrono 10ft from muzzle) sea level, 84.2F, 29.92Hg, RH 66%. I cleaned the bore after the first 10 rounds. This was a brand new unfired barrel, put 60 rounds downrange today. These were the first 20:

Those barrels are good, but they don't make miracles happen. LOL. Those barrels will reduce pressure, but definitely not add 200 FPS. I was thinking more in the lines of either chronology errors or SSA has changed their powder.

Re: First AR build--6.8

I don't know about that miracle part. My elbow was hurting last night, I rubbed my arp barrel on it and this morning it doesn't hurt.

I just finished running a tiller so I think me and that barrel will have an intimate moment later!

I wonder if they were some of the tactical loads.

rubber mallet - that is what I go with. I have had the same problem that you are talking about but it does come down to the one screw that attaches to the buffer tube. The tube and stock may be very tight fitting as mine was. I rememebr geting really frustrated with it but I ended up going the mallet route. It worked.
