so i went to the cihprs (central indiana high power rifle shooters) shoot today. it was a 3-20rd strings at 500 yds. for anyone considering doing this just do it. its more fun than you would ever imagine. everyone there is very helpful to the new guy who has no clue what is going on (me).
i have been nervious for a few days now and now i realize there is no reason what so ever to be nervious. somone told me today "dont be nervious its just shooting".
all and all i did better than i expected. my goal was to be in the top 1/2 of f-class shooters there and im pretty sure i was. the official scores are not out yet.
before i start the f-class shooters (me) were shooting on the same target as the highpower shooters. we should be shooting .5moa bulls and were shooting 1moa bulls so bear that in mind when reading my scores. basically it works out to a x= a 10, and a 10 would be a 9 for official f-class. somone feel free to correct me.
round 1 i think i got a 197. i rushed 2 shots and just missed once. i had 25 minutes to make my 20 shots. my longest time was 15 minutes so there was absolutly no reason to rush. im blaiming the new guy jitters. but i ended up with 10 or 11x's.
my second round the wind picked up around shot 8. since i finished so fast on all my strings i should have just laid the rifle down and waited, but i tried to hold off extra for the extra wind and undercompensated and ended up with a 8. then i tried to read my undercompensated shot and ended up overcompensating and got a 9 on the other side. next i undercompensated again and got another 9. then i calmed down took a minutes and finished my string. i ended up with a 194 (i think) and 11x's (i think)
the 3rd round i got a 198 with 15x's. the wind picked up just like it did in round 2 and i just laid there for a few minutes and then started shooting again. on my 2 9s i just missed. i must have missed a wind change or just plain pulled the shot.
best advise i can give a new guy is just go do it. dont worry about winning or being ready, just grab a rifle and give it a try. worst case secenerio is you have a blast shooting at ranges you dont normally get to shoot at with people you dont usually shoot with. i can almost garentee you learn a ton. you will defintally learn enough from the wind and other shooters to feel you got your entry fees worth.
