wanted to start by thanking you guys on helping with my moa to mil conversion and other questions I had. I went out this weekend with my bushmaster .308 ORC 16" and gave long range shooting my first go. and I'm addicted! I just finished developing a load I liked and put it into quick target to give me a ballistics chart. converted it to mils to be compatible with my scope(leupold mr/t spr reticle)I plan to use the reticle only for shooting this rifle.
double checked my velocity before shooting and she's right at 2600ft/sec.(168gr a-max) used the chart and it showed I needed 7.42mils to 800 so I held a hair above the 7.5mil subtension and shot just over it(my cousin was spotting for me) held the bottom of the bracket on the top of the target and hit several ft to the right. gave it a 1.5-2mil hold for wind same elevation and HIT! backed it with a second it and I was happy as can be. my cousin was all impressed with seeing the trace that I had to see it myself. told him the dope and he sent one down range after MFing me because of the recoil lol(he shoots a 5.56 ar with a battle comp) I told him to hold to the bottom of the bracket and use the same hold for the wind. two hits back to back. I loaded up 3 more and hit 3 for 3. started running out of daylight so we packed up and headed home.
I'm very impressed with this rifle and with the right loading it can be a very capable rig. now to get some smaller steel (was shooting at a 4' tall man hole cover) If I can hit consistantly on a 10" plate at even 600 i'll be plenty impressed for what this rifle is.
