First nice day at the range! (with pics)

My local gun club.

Bone stock Remington 700 SPS tactical 308 with a cheapish weaver tactical/kaspa 3-12x42mm and a $15 aluminum one piece weaver base and yes its still got the totally junk houge overmolded stock that touches the barrel if you put it on a bipod. haha

Two five shot groups at 100 yards. 168gr smk handloads.

Didn't have calipers on me so this is my finger for comparison.

Just thought I would share my day with my budget bang stick!

The top left group I jerked the most right shot. Otherwise that would have been a nice one.

Results are much different when that barrel heats up or starts to foul.

This is why I hate Remington, they are capable of producing rifles this accurate on a consistent basis but they don't. Congrats on getting a good one.

Not necessarily, I had an LTR that would shoot just as good as any custom round after round hot or cold and actually the dirtier it got the better it shot.

I started with a SPS Tactical exactly like it. I was able to shot .6 MOA groups with it from the bench. A B&C stock and a Jewel trigger made it nicer to shoot but the groups never really shrank.

I started the same way also. .308 SPS Tactical, that shot .49 constantly with Hogue stock and factory trigger and 175gr SMK reloads.

Its evolved now, only the action and bolt remain, but for a starter budget rifle, you CANNOT beat the <$600 price tag of a Remington 700 SPS.

I think I actually only paid $550 after everything for mine...

I guess im following a similar path! I already have a 300wm 5r tactical with a vortex pst ffp and I ogle other high end brands of rifles and optics. Right now I am too cheap to justify spending the serious bucks. Especially when I have rifles like this that I have less than $900 in total and shoot this well. I'm not wanting a "why $6000 rifles and $4000 optics are better" debate. I'm just saying at my point in my hobby I don't see the return on the additional investment. Ill get there someday. I don't repel off rooftops with my "equipment". I'm not an "operator" lol. But I do see the beauty in the very fine high end market. Someday that admiration will turn into justification of the cost. But for now i'm having a great time with what i've got!

Great stuff here. I started the same way. Upgraded to mcrees preceision atock, vortex pst factory barrel and action no work done and if I do my part with 168 or 175 grain smk it will shoot 1/2 moa all day.

Went from my first Precision Rifle the Remington 5R to a Tikka T3 Scout then finally broke down and Bought a SAKO TRG22. and now just got another 5R cause I always regreted selling my old one. Just took it out to the range today and shot .24 MOA 5 shot group at 100 yards. Altough it's not exactly stock as it Bedded in a B&C Medalist Tactical Stock.

Remington still makes good rifles. You just need to find the right one.

100 yards. Unfortunately I don't get to shoot formally at much more distance very often without traveling. Plenty of friends with farm fields but few willing to let me set up a range. Haha

A blemington is like buying a lotto ticket, win or loose. Custom or something like an AI is like buying a piece of gold, it will always be that.

That's why I asked the poster previously, because my experience is that every stock, no matter if it's B&C, H-S, McMillan, etc., seems to improve after bedding. Look at all the custom rifle makers' websites, and you see grey stuff oozing out all over their stocks, and then they shoot 'em.
