I returned from Afghanistan and received a very nice welcome home gift. I received a brand spanking new Noveske N6 7.62 with the 18 inch barrel, Magpul PRS stock, 3.5 NXS nightforce scope (This thing is amazing) and a polymer grip pod in the front.

One of the questions I have about it is ammunition. Im heading to the range tommorow and I could only find 2 types of ammunition after checking 5 stores. Some cheap military grade stuff in a wooden box, a few other military surplus stuff, and finally some Turkish Made American Tactical Ammo. Suffice to say I picked up the Turk ammo and am wondering if anyone has any experience with it. It seems like decent stuff from the looks of it.

Second question, I put the nightforce on myself and noticed the sunshade at one point touches the rails I can however slide a piece of paper through it no problem. Wondering if thats going to damage the scope if fired as is.

Thanks!

Re: First Precision AR

First off, very, very nice rifle and welcome to the Hide. I was stationed in Anchorage when the 6ID(L) was there before it got deactivated. How high of rings do you have for the AR? Secondly, if it is that close on the barrel when you shoot a lot will get a mirage effect off of the barrel as it heats up so you don't want it that close on the barrel.

Look on line for ammo to get something better than old military surplus. You will never see what the rifle is capable of with that ammunition. Get some quality stuff like Federal, Hornady, Black Hills even Privi with a 168 or a75 grain bullet.

We do need some pics of the rifle.

I have the NF Uni-Mount Rings, Thats all I could find atm the handful of stores I went to said they will have more items next week so until then ill just tough it out and spread out my shots. Its like 20 degrees out so if if i take my time I don't think it will be a problem until next week.

Ill put pix up tommorow after the range, I am a bit dissapointed its 3Am here im still on desert time, sleep for 4 hours awake for 12 etc. I openened the Magpul box and came to the conclusion that it doesnt have a buffer spring or the actual buffer...bummer, ill stick to the Vltor stock for now until the supplies come in.

I like the illuminated reticle, its pretty wicked in my opinion.

Thanks!

Re: First Precision AR

I was in Afghanistan all last year so I know how that time difference messes with you.

Rings: are they High, medium or low. On my AR's I like high rings especially when using a PRS as you have an adjustable cheek piece. You need a gap between the lens and barrel. It may worth your time to get a Larue base and rings:

http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=30

that is a nice mount and is Quick Detach - I know more money but you bought a great rifle and you have years of tax free so go for it.

Also, when you get the springs make sure you get the ones for the 308. They are different from a 223 becasue the 308 bolt is longer.

Re: First Precision AR

yea, you need to go higher on the scope rings: read this thread:
http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1433025#Post1433025

I think you have the scope mount backwards. The 90 degree piece is supposed to be to the rear.

BTW, that is a nice looking rifle. The scope looks huge on that rifle. I would look at a LaRue QD for the rifle. It looks good but is also practical with BUIS if you have to remove the scope.

if I remember correctly, to change to your Magpul PRS from the Vltor you are going to have to change the whole rear-end section.

Note: The PRS™ requires a Rifle Receiver Extension tube, OEM Rifle Buffer and Spring (Not included).

Re: First Precision AR

In the last pic with the nightforce uni mount, you have the mount on backwards. Nice rifle though let us know how it shoots.

So the LaRue Tactical SPR / M4 Scope Mount QD LT-104 should give me enough clearance?

First of all sweet rifle! Larue products are built so well that its the only scope mount I will use on my ARs. So much so when I look at a scope price I always find myself adding an extra two hundred on the price figuring the mount into it. Get some match ammo and start shooting sub moa.

Re: First Precision AR

Stark, Welcome home son. My days for that have passed, but whoever provided you with the N6, deserves a wet one, even if you have to kiss yourself.

Guys, ref. the magpul. I'm ordering one for an AR-10 (T). I was under the impression that the existing buffer, springs, etc. would go with the magpul. Enlighten me if I'm wrong??

Re: First Precision AR

if you have a collapsable stock on any AR and go to a PRS you are goin to need a diferent buffer tube, spring and buffer. you can get the whole kit from brownells for like 30 bucks i think

Only if you have a full length buffer tube on the rifle already. If you go from a Shorty tube like Stark has you have the change the buffer tube, spring and buffer. Like Big Joe says above.

Re: First Precision AR

Well took it to the range today, the Unimount was removed as well as the scope. The problem i ran into was when I started to tighten the mounts the scope would shift to the right because it was touching the rails. So i stuck with my iron sights, and went through about 40-60 rounds of cheap surplus crap. All in all it was a bad ass time. Even got a friend of mine to get about 10 rounds down range with it, she handled it quite well

I ran into one problem and that was my fault for rushing. When i received the rifle it was absolutely in every sense of the way coated in the nastiest grease ive ever witnessed. I cleaned the majority of it off but left some on there and it caused problems. When I hit about 30 rounds the 20 degree weather turned the remaining grease into...well..gel or rather mush and it stopped racking back on its own. Ive totally dismantled it and cleaned the living shit out of it, including letting CLP sit on it for 2 hours then wiping away the rest of the gunk.

I also took it to a local gun store, very helpful gentlemen under the name of Alaska Northern Guns, very good people. Put a Hogue grip on there for me, pretty sweet. Now on monday I should have the new rings, and the new Magpul.

Will post Pics and Range report next time im at the range (few days).

Thanks all!

Re: First Precision AR

sounds like a nice day at the range. I remember going to Alaska Northern Guns. I was trying to remember yesterday what gun shop I used to go to and I think that was it. How is the trigger on the Noveske?

Trigger was actually pretty good, clean pull back and it took me only a few shots to get it right. Doesn't take much at all to pull it back either, I wonder what its set at someday ill get froggy and check it out.

Re: First Precision AR

Needs high rings. I've seen one piece spacers under larue mounts too but be leery of getting the scope too high over the bore centerline.Start dialing more correction that way.

Before you buy a Larue mount I'd take a look at how much front-back movement you'll have with that scope in the mount. May not be able to get proper eye relief with that big objective and sun shade. There are QD two piece rings if you're interested in that.

Great looking rifle and glad to hear you're home safe. Thank You for your service.
