I'm very new to long range firearm shooting, but I am not new to firearms. I want to build my own long range rifle and I have chosen my action I want to build up. The manufacturer states the action comes with a "standard caliber bolt head". My question is what calibers could I build from this action? My end goal is to smack a small target (8" or so) at 1,000 yards with great consistency and I was leaning to 6.5 Creedmoor. Hopefully 6.5 Creedmoor falls within a "standard caliber".

"standard caliber bolt head" is another way of saying "308 bolt".

6BR/Dasher, 243, 6XC, 6/6.5x47 Lapua, 6/6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Remington, 7-08, 308, 338 Federal are just some of the options available.

If you're not aware of the convention between standard, magnum, and 223 bolt heads and what that means, do you really want to tackle building a rifle?

there are set dimensions for the bolt faces but i don't have them in front of me know and I dont trust my memory. the 6.5 Creedmoor uses the most common one, but ask the mfg to be sure!

6.5 Creedmoor uses the standard bolt face diameter: .473". Nominal case head diameter is .4728" Same as 308 Win and 30-06

Stole this off another forum, its not comprehensive but good enough. 6.5 creed is the same face as a 308.
It also doesnt have the other forgeign bolt face diameters, a 6.5 grendel uses the same bolt face diameter as a 220 russian and PPC cases formed from that russian which is a short action length bolt face diameter of .443"
